A female postgraduate trainee was found dead at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. Police recovered the naked body from the seminar hall. This created a tense situation near the hospital. Relatives and family members reached in large numbers and took up agitation. Leaders of many parties also supported it. The family members are alleging that their daughter was raped and killed. They started agitating for justice on a large scale. As this incident became a sensation across the state, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the victim’s parents. She promised to do justice.
The deceased was a second year student in the Department of Chest Medicine. She was in night duty on Thursday. Injuries were visible on the body. However, the police, who have registered a case, are interrogating the staff on duty on Thursday night. They are talking about what actually happened. The victim’s father alleged that there is a conspiracy to cover up the case. They demanded strict action against the accused.

A senior police officer said that the body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the emergency building by fellow students. He said that he was talking to the doctors, nurses and others who were on duty with her last night. The investigation of the case will continue. It has been revealed that the body has been shifted for postmortem. He said that when the report comes, the real things will come out. He said she had scratches on her cheeks, around her nose, lips, between her eyebrows and on her neck. They said that it looks like there was a fight. If the postmortem report comes, police will understand whether she was sexually assaulted or was she murdered.

The hospital doctor said that the victim had dinner with her juniors around 2 midnight. She said that she went to the seminar room as there was no special room to relax. They said that her dead body was found in the morning.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary NS Nigam and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the hospital and held a meeting with the top officials of the medical department. The hospital authorities constituted a three-member panel to probe the death of the trainee doctor. Meanwhile, PGT doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital have taken up agitation demanding immediate arrest of those responsible. Many student associations took out a rally. Also, several opposition BJP leaders, including MLA Agnimitra Paul, also visited the hospital and demanded an independent investigation under the direction of a magistrate.
