The University Grants Commission of India is a Union government body that provides funds for government-recognised universities and colleges. It is the body that provides recognition for universities in India.
Besides the above, UGC also promotes and coordinates university education, determines and maintains standards of teaching, examination and research in universities, and frames regulations on minimum standards of education. It also monitors developments in the field of collegiate and university education; disbursing grants to the universities and colleges.
