IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation) has made online railway reservation very easy through its website.  No more long queues to stand and no need to go to ticket booking agents.  If you have internet at home, you can log into IRCTC site http://www.irctc.co.in/ and book you tickets using credit card and net banking.

First you need to register for a free account.  On the home page you can find a “Signup” link from where you can create an account.  Once you log into the site, you need to enter the “From” and “To” locations and select the date of travel.  It will show the number of trains traveling through that route on the selected route along with the seat availability.  Select the train, enter the passenger details, and make payment through net banking or credit card.  Once the payment is processed, you can print the ticket and carry on your travel.  Doesn’t it look easy.

You can book even tatkal tickets one day before the journey.
